Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior representative said the vandalism left him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
